EQUESTERIAN NEWS AND UPDATES TO COME
TRUTH FOLLOWERS
Are you a truth follower or do you follow only what you find pleasing? This is a common challenge for all of us. Before becoming a Christian, we had no direction, so many confusing ideas pulled us in all directions. Consider the following.
What is Truth?
Truth is absolute, meaning that anything that is not truth is false. Knowing the truth enables us to know what is false.
Our society holds that truth is up to the individual and that everyone has their own truth. We are told that truth is unknowable. The claim that truth is unknowable is self-defeating. How would you know if it is true or not?
John 18:36-38 NKJV
(36) Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here."
(37) Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."
(38) Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him at all.
Luke 20:21 NKJV
(21) Then they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show personal favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth:
John 16:13 NKJV
(13) However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
Jesus, saying He is the Truth, invites us to investigate who He is. I invite you to take this journey to learn about who Jesus is and what it means that Jesus is The Truth.
I believe the message that Jesus is the Truth is an invitation to fully trust Him. What does it mean to fully, completely trust Jesus? To fully trust Jesus to want to know him fully, deeply, and accept what he says. That is to apply what we learn to our lives. That is not only the easy things but also the hard.
When I first became a Christian, I focused on Arminianism, the teaching that focused on Man’s Free Will. After a while, I had problems with this teaching because I was not able to reconcile it with God being Sovereign and all powerful. Then I started looking into Calvinism. I felt this fit better with God being sovereign and all powerful. After many years, I came to realize both are taught in the Bible, and that my confusion is partly because of my limitations. My limitations as being one that is created to the one that is the Creator. Jesus said He is the Truth. Trust Him. I have been working to trust Jesus more and more each day and to accept what God’s Word teaches, but I struggle to reconcile everything my limited understanding. One morning, this struggle I've been having found expression in the poem I believe God placed on my heart.
John 18:36-38 NASB
(36) Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”
(37) Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this I have come into the world: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.”
(38) Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And after saying this, he came out again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no grounds at all for charges in His case.
Luke 20:21 NASB
(21) And the spies questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God on the basis of truth.
John 16:13 NASB
(13) “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
When I see Jesus face-to-face
All my questions will be erased
I fall down to hide my face
All my questions are erased
For I see Jesus face-to-face
For Jesus is God and I am not
His ways are His ways alone
Feeling ashamed, my questions fade away
Because I see Jesus face-to-face
